700W vs 1200W Laser Welder

The useful question is not “is 1200W better?” It is whether your regular material, thickness, speed and portability needs justify moving out of the compact 700W class.

Short answer: buy capability, not the larger number

700W makes the most sense when: thin-sheet work, compact size, air cooling and lower acquisition cost dominate. 1200W becomes more attractive when: your repeated jobs need more published thickness headroom, higher throughput or a broader process window—and your shop can support the exact machine.

Four reasons to stay at 700W—or move to 1200W

1. Your routine thickness

If nearly every job is thin sheet, buying extra output that is never used can add cost without solving a real bottleneck. If recurring jobs live near the edge of a 700W machine’s published capability, 1200W deserves a material-specific comparison.

2. Material

Aluminum, copper and brass should not inherit a steel thickness assumption. Use manufacturer-specific material data where it exists and request sample validation where it does not.

3. Portability and cooling

Both 700W and 1200W systems now exist in air-cooled formats. The important comparison is the complete machine: weight, footprint, input power, cable system and duty expectations.

4. Installed cost

Machine price is only one line. Electrical work, shielding gas, wire feeding, extraction, safety controls, consumables and service can change the real purchase decision.
